For the icy temperatures, we had a great turnout of cyclists at this morning’s opening of the first stage of the Grafton Gully Cycleway, between Grafton Road and Alten Road. Myself and two of CAA’s Associates claimed confusion over which end the event would start as our excuse for actually riding the section uphill – before the official opening. Then a whole crowd of us rode back down, to warm coffee, happy smiles and a wonderfully wide cycleway. Wide cycleways are wide!
Congrats to all at NZTA for getting this first section done in style. Work is already underway at the next section (Alten Road to Beach Road), and the central sections in the Gully are to start work in 1-2 months, for a targeted completion late this summer. Then its on to Beach Road.
