A Glitter Glam Treat – White Night on the Pink Path with the Velociteers

One again the Auckland Arts Festival lights up the night with White Night – a pearly string of free artsy pit-stops on Saturday night. What better way to freewheel among the attractions than on a bike? Even better, wear white and dress up your bike too (with lights) to get into the spirit.

This year features a special treat on the newly activated Lightpath: the gorgeous synchronised cycling stars of the Velociteers will perform on Te Ara I Whiti, in an illuminated musical homage to the life and creativity of the late great David Bowie.

As the event page says, it’ll be as if the pink and white terraces returned, changed into bicycles and danced. To the sound of Bowie!

When? Saturday 12 March 2016, with performances at 7.15, 8.15 and 9.15 pm.

Where? West Terrace or the K’ Road overbridge are the places to be to view the synchronised bicycle feast of ‘White Light’

Why? Look, just… look.

And that’s just the start of White Night activities in and around K Rd. Here’s Margaret Lewis from the Karangahape Road Business Association:

Hang out in our Canada St Hub (we’ve closed the road). Add to making installation piece Max and Bella And Friends. Artists Donna Sarten and Bernie Harfleet focus on depression and anxiety disorders and just how prevalent they are. We’ll be making windmills – a perfect analogy for the mind, having moments of stillness and of kinetic movement (and installing them in Canada St)

Cycle Blend your own smoothie, or have a Dr Feelgood, have coffee and eat, at the same time have your say about K Road’s streetscape enhancement project with Auckland Council and Auckland Transport.

Then head off down Te Ara I Whiti (#LightpathAKL) and make pit stops at other CBD White Night locations. Our map will bring you back to Canada St for a coffee or even a Goodnight Cocoa. Finish with a game of dominoes.

You can explore the other White Night offerings by theme, location, and map on the official White Night page. We’ll leave you with a glimmer of the glitter and glam that awaits you on Saturday night… oh, you pretty things!
