Un petit Tour de Waterview – come one, come all!

2 min read

Allons-y, which is French for ‘on your bike!’ A tiny, slow-paced Tour De France is coming to Waterview, on Saturday 15th October 2016 @ 10am. The ‘Tour de Waterview’ is the brainchild of the lovable Waterview Coffee Project, which operates out of a colourful container on Daventry St and is the caffeinated glue that holds the neighbourhood together.

If you’re a local, you’ll be in like Flynn. If you’re not, come and visit this sweet little ‘hood keeping it real in the shadow of New Zealand’s biggest motorway project. Waterview is easily accessible via the NW cycleway – exit the cycleway at Great North Rd beside the overbridge onto the east/city side of Great North Rd, then follow the signs for ‘Playground Traffic’.

Details below (and further info) from the event page:

That’s right – the rumours are indeed true – Waterview will have its very own annual bike ride – Tour De Waterview.

All children and parents are welcome. We estimate the course to be approximately 2-3kms, with only slight hills. It is not a race – purely a leisurely ride. Waterview is pretty quiet, but logistically, we need parents to assist by riding with their kids.

The ride will leave the café at 10am, heading clockwise around the famous Daventry-Herdman loop, via Waterbank, past the skyline of the newly built Waterview Primary, then south along Saxon, via Kuaka Park, Alford, Middlesex, Hadfield, Fairlands, Seaside, over the historic Fir & Saxon Bridge (built last century!), and back to the café for a Nice Block and Sausage Sizzle.

There will be spot prizes on the day… and a free marshmallow for anyone who wears lycra.

The Waterview Coffee Project is a ‘not-for-profit’ community venture, with a goal of bringing the community together. We only ever cover our operating costs, and we rely on volunteer support to keep the project afloat. If you would like to donate to the cause please assist with donations to: Kiwibank 38-9016-0342583-00. Any donation is appreciated, large or small. Business is often slow over the winter months, and regular events such as Tour De Waterview help balance the books.

Please call/text Mark on 027 828 2071 if you’re interested to assist on the day.

Please come down and support your local community café. We need it!!

Spot the clever bike parking!

PS The new playground/ waterpark is indeed pretty fab – don’t leave Waterview without checking it out, and inspecting the progress on the pump track and skate park while you’re there! And after the ride, you can pop over to Pt Chev, by heading through Unitec to the Pt Chev shops, then down Montrose St or Walker Rd to check out the new boardwalk.
