Find out more about Cycling Works here.

Bikeable cities are the world’s most liveable and exciting places to live. Talent, which is in global demand, wants to live in these cities. Cycling helps reduce carbon emissions, eases traffic congestion, saves money and supports a fun and healthy lifestyle.

South Pacific Pictures encourages people to get on bikes, both on-screen and off! As one of the largest producers of screen content in New Zealand we are in a unique position to influence and inspire audiences, encourage positive change and ensure Aotearoa’s natural environment continues to be a successful selling point. SPP supports safe, protected cycleways in Tāmaki Makaurau and encourages staff to choose active transport for all the reasons; reduce carbon emissions and traffic congestion, health and personal fitness, it’s economical and is a fun way to commute!

At Brightly we love getting around by bike – it’s better for us, better for the environment, and a great way for us to get out and see customers and suppliers in central Auckland. We’d love more safe and protected cycleways so that our team can feel more confident when they’re cycling around the city.

We should all have the choice to protect the future of our planet, by walking or cycling safely and efficiently within Auckland. The ability to leave the car at home, and get from A to B under our own power, should not be an unusual choice.

More and better cycling infrastructure for Auckland is a total no-brainer. Healthier for people, for the environment, for the planet. People who bike are happier, healthier and more productive. Why would you not want safe and effective biking options for whoever wants them.

Everyone deserves a safe place in our communities, and people who ride bikes deserve a safe place in our transport networks. Clear separation from cars, trucks and transport vehicles improves travel time and safety for everyone on the road. Well-planned, long term sustainable infrastructure is a winner for us all!

We would like to see tamariki and rangatahi being able to safely ride to school or to enjoy biking around our beautiful city with whānau and friends.

We love an easily accessible, well-connected city!

Cities that ride are cities that thrive.

As a tech startup with a remote distributed team, flexibility in our work and life is important. Investing in active and public modes of transport gives people the flexibility they need to get around – to work, business meetings, coffee chats, events, and errands – in an efficient, quick, and fun way. Future-facing organisations understand that reducing our emissions is key to a thriving future for all – for businesses, yes, but also our communities, ecosystems, and the planet on which all of our businesses depend.

We would cycle everywhere if we could! Paired with a functioning train/rapid bus network, cycling could cover almost all the trips we need to do for work. Our colleagues all cycle to work and to most site visits. Electric bikes mostly solved the challenge of hills for those who want to avoid pedalling up them.

A network of safe connected cycleways is a feature of the world’s most liveable cities. Auckland has made a great start but we’re not there yet. Let’s keep going and make this a city where it’s easy, equitable, environmentally sustainable and enjoyable to get around!

Safer and more efficient. We’re pedaling towards a healthier Auckland!

New Zealand Green Building Council | Te Kaunihera Hanganga Tautaiao o Aotearoa supports the Cycling Works Pledge. Making cycling easier, safer, and more accessible is great for all New Zealanders. We’ve seen firsthand the impact excellent end of trip facilities can have in the buildings designed, built, and operated through our Green Star and Green Star Performance certifications. Our own offices in the Auckland CBD have terrific end of trip facilities and it makes it so much more accessible for people to take up lower carbon transport options.

Great cycling infrastructure, including end of trip facilities, is good for business, for the value of properties, for New Zealander’s health, and absolutely vital for a low-carbon future.

ActionActors, a unique temp employment agency founded initially to source non acting work for professional actors between their acting gigs, have had the pleasure of being the contracted supplier of Transport Ambassadors to AT for the last 5yrs. In that capacity we have been involved in a numerous cycling activations. The dynamic of working with cyclists in comparison to car drivers, highlights the states of mind people are in when cycling as opposed to driving in clogged traffic. Every populated area, especially cities should put significant resource into encouraging people to have bikes as an urban transport option.

Cycling is not only a better transport option for the environment, it’s fantastic for your health and wellbeing!

We believe that our staff, clients and fellow Aucklanders should be free to choose cycling as a safe and healthy option for getting around. Good cycling infrastructure is vital for this.

The Vic Devonport is a community cinema and venue and a heritage bulding in the heart of Devonport. Two of our full time staff come to work on a bicycle. We would love a dedicated bike lane for them to travel on. I regularly hear from our patrons that Lake Road is unsafe to travel on with a bicycle and that’s why they don’t use it and why they won’t let their children travel on it either. Parking outside the cinema is scarce. I believe safer travel on bikes lanes would help increase business. We would also welcome more bike parking outside our building and the streets of devonport as there is currently only one bike stand outside our building and one outside the neighbouring cafe. Each bike stand can only hold two bikes.

Let’s pedal towards a brighter, greener future together!

Cemplicity is in the business of healthcare so supporting the development of safe cycling in Auckland is important to us. Several of our staff cycle to work and more would like to if it were safer. […] Poor design and lack of action leads to serious injury and death. We know this so it should be a priority to address the gaps and weaknesses in our cycling network.

Mary Vance, Executive Director and Co-Founder

At the Sustainable Business Network we’re enthusiastic supporters of cycling. We all commute using public or active transport modes like cycling. That choice is helping us reduce our emissions. It makes a difference because we include our commuting emissions in our carbon footprint, which we report on each year. But that’s not all. There are great health and wellbeing benefits from cycling. Plus, it’s much cheaper and less hassle than driving a car. We’ve noticed the difference that dedicated bike lanes are making. As the cycle network expands it’s getting easier to bike around the city and it’s so much safer than riding on busy streets. That’s good but we need to be far more ambitious. Let’s make Auckland the Pacific equivalent of bike friendly cities like Amsterdam and Denmark.

Rachel Brown ONZM, Founder and CEO

50% of the staff in The mSupply Foundation’s Auckland office bike to work.
Many of our staff feel unsafe on roads. We would highly value more protected cycleways to enable staff to be safer, and for cycling to be accessible to another 30% of our staff who could bike if they felt safe.

We compete for our very talented staff in a pool that includes major Australian cities, and the lack of safe cycling infrastructure in Auckland compared to those cities is continually brought up by staff as a competitive disadvantage for Auckland.
We could fix that.

— Craig Drown, CEO

More bikes = less cars.
Less cars = less traffic congestion.
Less traffic = more productivity.

It’s not rocket science that bikes are good for business. Let’s get Auckland moving with a safe and connected cycle network.

As a business focused on sustainability, we believe in the importance of providing safe and environmentally friendly transportation options to communities throughout Auckland.

All the science shows that build it and they will come, and that providing people transport choices reduces congestion for people who must drive.

Put simply, in all of us is the desire to leave the world better for our grandchildren then we found it. Building safer cycle infrastructure in the cities we call home is a great way to achieve this.

Car sharing plays a pivotal role in supporting the development of safer cycle infrastructure in Auckland & other New Zealand cities. By reducing the number of privately owned vehicles on the road, car share services help alleviate traffic congestion and the need for parking space, creating a more bike-friendly environment. This shift not only encourages more people to consider cycling as a viable mode of transport but also prioritizes the need for dedicated cycle lanes and safer routes.

As car share adoption grows, the demand for better cycling infrastructure becomes more apparent, leading to increased investment in protected bike lanes, traffic calming measures, and other safety enhancements. Ultimately, car sharing and cycling infrastructure work hand-in-hand to create a more sustainable, accessible, and safer urban landscape for all New Zealanders.

Our practice is located in the city with a number of staff who regularly ride to work, including from Mount Albert, Mount Eden and from the North Shore via the ferry. The cycle lane up Queen Street is quick, safe and a pleasant way round to get to work – if only there was one across the bridge! 🙂

Our goal is to connect communities, nature and mana whenua. What better way to connect people with nature than cycling through our beautiful city and countryside.

Simon Oosterman Beckers, Coordinator

Cycling is important to Resilio Studio as it aligns with our values in promoting sustainable and regenerative design practices in Aotearoa. While our staff of around 14 currently bus cycle and predominantly drive to work from various parts of Auckland, we recognize the potential benefits that improved cycling infrastructure could bring to our organization.

Auckland Library of Tools strongly supports protected cycle ways. Many of of our volunteers and members cycle to ALoT, picking up items from our lending library to take home for their DIY projects. We want to ensure our members can safely commute around Tāmaki Makaurau, and not have to rely on a car. We’ve seen members cycle off with ladders, electric mulchers, chainsaws, pole pruners and overlockers! Parking is limited at ALoT and we want to encourage our members to cycle, protected cycleways will help promote this. We are fortune to be fairly accessible via protected cycleway, but we know those cycleways don’t extend out to the suburbs our members live in. Most of our volunteers (we are volunteer run organisation) cycle or walk to ALoT, we want to make sure they can safely make their commute.

A number of our staff cycle to work, we support protected cycleways to ensure they can arrive safely. Localised operate & jointly support a number of community recycling centres and secondhand shops. These sites would benefit from protected cycleways to allow our customers to visit the sites without needing a vehicle.

We support smart urban development for our city. It’s great for all of our quality of lives. Auckland is a great city for cycling with its mild climate and low terrain. Separated cycleways seem to be a very efficient means of transport. I rode in this morning in a veritable cloud of fellow cyclists along the Western Motorway bike path.

For all our staff, and our business in general, I support cycling in Auckland.

The Tāmaki Waste Reduction Action Project (TWRAP) is dedicated to empowering sustainable communities that can educate, inspire, and drive change in how we manage waste, in line with our role as kaitiaki of Papatūānuku. Through our community activators, we work to reduce waste and promote sustainability in the Maungakiekie Tāmaki area. Another initiative is the Community Supported Agriculture project, where local residents pay for locally grown produce.

We believe that expanding cycling infrastructure plays a crucial role in reducing our environmental impact and fostering a vibrant, sustainable city. Enhanced cycling facilities would make it safer for our compost collectors to deliver food scraps to the compost hub, further supporting our waste reduction goals. We are proud to support the Cycling Works pledge as part of our commitment to a greener future.

At Milford Eye Clinic, we care about the health and wellbeing of our community.
