A small detour at Patiki Rd while the new underpass is built

From Monday 7 September to late December 2015 the NW cycleway will be detoured at Patiki Ave, while the Causeway Alliance removes the current cycleway overbridge and constructs…

…a cycle underpass!

That’s right: no more “up and over”, it’ll be smooth runnings right through. Woohoo!

Here’s the map:

Having checked out the situation on the ground, we urge you to use the pedestrian island that has been installed to cross Patiki Road, and take extra care to watch out for vehicles entering and exiting driveways. As with any detour, there’s a balance between keeping people on bikes safe while not taking you too far out of your way.

This section of road gets very busy at rush times, so be alert and keep your wits about you. Signs will be in place to let drivers know what’s happening, but take it easy while everyone figures out the new (temporary!) situation. More evening daylight as of late October should help, too.

Thanks for your patience, everyone… and give a cheery wave to the workers as you go past. All this will be worth it, with the underpass completed by the end of the year, and this time next year (give or take) we’ll be sailing along a beautifully smooth fully completed path all the way across the Causeway!

Our thanks to Barbara Ware for managing the detour and maintenance alerts so smoothly along this busy stretch of work in progress. Any questions, Barbara can be contacted on 027 809 8186.
