Picture people pouring in the doors next Wednesday evening, eager to get a drink, a nibble and ready to talk about what’s happening to make things better for bikes. They look like regular Aucklanders – but we like to think they’re wearing super-hero capes that only we can see.
Because these unassuming people – you – have hidden powers. You’re the ones who cheer Bike Auckland on and on, day after day. You have the superpower to push our Bikeable Auckland campaign to thousands of Aucklanders over the past week, and even more in the weeks to come.
Whether you’re a Green Lantern biking to work in hi-viz with lights blazing; a Super-Mum-or-Dad accompanying your kids to school before heading off to work on wheels; or that legendary local bike-shopper, The Quaxer – you’re heroic in our eyes.
The most compelling evidence of your power is in the numbers on the bike counters – you’ve sent them soaring! Especially on the Pink Path + Nelson St and Quay St. All these projects have beaten bike count records by attracting more riders per day in the first year than the transport planners predicted for a decade from now. In other words, you took that hopeful ten year target and smashed it in year one.
You’re the everyday heroes, changing perceptions every day of how much Aucklanders like to bike. You’re showing politicians that biking is an irresistible movement that must be rolled out to all corners of our city. And you empower us to keep pushing for more and better biking.
If you’re one of these mild-mannered heroes, please come to our AGM, decloak, and mingle with the rest of us!
WHEN: Wednesday 28 September 2016
Doors open from 6pm; meeting starts at 6.30pm
WHERE: SNAP, upstairs at The Original, 204 Quay St (formerly Snapdragon)
Opposite the Maritime Museum/ facing the Viaduct, and handy to the new Quay St cycleway!
We’ll be upstairs in the Games Room. Nibbles provided, and a cash bar. Please let us know by Thursday this week if you’re coming, so we don’t run out of nibbles.
