Bike to Jurassic (Chamberlain) Park!

Bike to Jurassic (Chamberlain) Park!

Bike Auckland

2 min read

Good news. Not only is the Albert-Eden Local Board looking at opening up Chamberlain Park for people to play in and walk and bike through (great news for those of us looking for better bike links) – they’re giving it a test-run this weekend. With bonus dinosaurs!

The western end of Chamberlain Park will be open on Friday night for a free screening of Jurassic Park, and on Saturday for an Easter egg hunt, a concert, and a special event for dogs.

With parking at a premium, the best way to get to the park is to ride your bike. There will be secure valet bike parking and a bike mechanic on site for tune-ups, and Bike Auckland will be there with bells on – in fact we’ll be giving them away, along with maps, bike info, and freebies like spokey-dokies.

Okay. Let’s cut to the chase. Velociraptors on velocipedes!

Here’s everything you need to know about Jurassic Park on Good Friday night:

  • gates will be open from 6.30, with pre-show entertainment before the movie
  • the movie starts as soon as it gets dark enough, around 8-8.30
  • there will be snack trucks on site – the usual Movies in Parks crew – but if you want a proper dinner, BYO picnic (you may want to check the opening status of nearby restaurants in Pt Chevalier, given it’s a public holiday)
  • if you’re arriving by bike, make sure you have bike lights for the ride home
  • and, to make life easier for families on wheels, we’ll have free bike lights to give away to the first 30 or so kids to arrive who don’t have them already! (Or if you happen to forget yours)

And click here for the plan for Easter Saturday…

Bike parking is conveniently located at the entrance to the park, where the NW cycleway meets the cul-de-sac of Sutherland Rd.

PS Bonus, just for you. A deleted scene from the movie…??
