At Bike Auckland and across the region’s Bike Burbs, we’re gearing up for a month of pedal power and encouraging the community to get pedalling for Biketober from 1-31 October.

Biketober is a month-long celebration of the joy of riding a bike, and its benefits for the environment and your health and wellbeing. It’s the perfect moment to dust off your bike and get riding for spring.

We can’t wait for these incredible activities

Ōtara locals enjoy a Bike Rave.
  1. Sunday 6 October: the Big Fancy Bike Ride is back for 2024 as our massive Biketober launch event. Come in your Sunday best — bold, fabulous, and whatever makes you feel strong and beautiful! Decorate your bike, pose for photos, take selfies, and spread joy as we cycle through the city.
  2. Saturday 12 October: celebrate 100 years of the iconic St Kevin’s Arcade with Bike Ōwairaka on this group ride. The ride is followed by a Hundred Year House Party Audio Tour to learn about the arcade’s rich history.
  3. Sunday 20 October: learn to pilot a tandem. Tandem pilots bring the joy of cycling to people who are blind, have low vision, or who may otherwise be excluded from cycling. Great opportunity to gain some skills for good, and have fun at the same time!
  4. All month long: Ride ‘n’ Seek the City Centre Loop. We’ve written elsewhere about how exciting te Ara Āmio i te Pokapū Tāone, the City Centre Loop is. Check it out and win prizes – and there’s a photography competition too!
