We’ve been following the Albert-Eden Local Board’s plans for Chamberlain Park for some months now, with particular interest in the proposal to make this beautiful green space more accessible via cycling and walking paths.
Now, feedback is being invited on a Masterplan that provides four different options – all of which rely on a baseline plan that creates two new north-south paths through the park, and links to streets to the west and south of the park.
What’s more, the baseline plan notes that “a future shared pedestrian and cycle bridge [across] the Northwestern Motorway … is highlighted as a long-term aspiration.” This would not only reconnect Chamberlain Park to Western Springs (at the Motions Rd intersection), but would also provide a useful midpoint crossing between Carrington Road and St Luke’s Rd for people on foot and on bikes.
Naturally, Cycle Action will be providing positive feedback on the improved access for bikes. And everyone is welcome to contribute their thoughts via the extremely easy online form.
