In one of our last Cycle Summit speaker videos, we have Hamish Mackie, of Mackie Research and Consulting, talk about the Nga Iwi School project in Mangere.
Using the concept originally created by Paul McArdle’s for ‘Bikes in Schools’ – but organised this time by Auckland Transport – Nga Iwi received donations of funds and work time from various groups to install several types of bike tracks and provide their primary school students with bikes and training to use on them. Six months on, the tracks remain well-used – even once the novelty has worn off a bit. A concept well worth bringing to a lot more schools.
