With a new cycleway coming soon on Hobsonville Road, Hobsonville and West Harbour locals are getting excited about biking! It’s the perfect backdrop for the birth of a new Bike Burb. Drumroll please… It’s time to welcome Bike Hobsonville and West Harbour!
What are Bike Burbs?
Bike Burbs are community-led groups who want their neighbourhood to be a bike-friendly place. They create a cycling community, advocate for safer cycleways, and promote biking as an accessible transportation option for people of all ages and mobilities. As of today, there are 37 Bike Burbs around Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Each Burb is different, as they bring the unique flair of their community into their projects.

What’s happening in Hobsonville and West Harbour?
Through June and July, Auckland Transport have been running a focused Ready to Ride campaign across Hobsonville Point. The goal is to increase ridership ready for the new cycleway. The new Bike Burb builds on this strong foundation with plans to support all types of cycling and all ages. Next up, they will be running a set of group rides over August, predominantly around Hobsonville Point.
One of the organisers, Derek Hogg says:
“It’s all very new and we’re learning as we go. Crank, the transport consultancy, have brought their expertise to the table which has really helped. We can’t wait to connect with more people on bikes around Hobsonville and West Harbour – and those who are keen to give it a go!”
