Calling all folding bike fans: time for an Auckland Brompton meet-up

1 min read

Remember Barbara Grace’s trip to London with her folding bike for the Brompton Bike Races? We’ve been spotting more and more of these clever wee bikes around town. And now comes word of a Brompton-lovers’ meet-up this weekend, out in the home of Bike Te Atatu, with two options to get involved.

Check out the FB event page, or call Maurice for further details: 0274330057

NB you don’t need to have a Brompton to come along — folding bike fans of all kinds and Brompton-curious folk most warmly welcomed, whatever your current wheels!

Option 1 – shorter ride/ local access

Meet 2pm at Heather’s place (Vinograd Drive, Te Atatu Peninsula – call Maurice for exact address), for a 30 minute pootle along the cycleway. Then back to Heather’s for:

  • refreshments
  • mechanical Brompton workshop – removing wheels and changing tyre/tubes
  • creating an official Auckland Brompton club, deciding on website/FB group, how often to meet, which rides to attend etc

The meet-up will wrap up around 4:30pm

Option 2 – longer ride/ if you’re coming from further away

Meet at the Baldwin Avenue train station at 12:45pm and ride to Heather’s place together along the NW cycleway (which has lots of great new stretches of fresh concrete!). There are at least 3 of us doing this option and we’ll be riding at a leisurely pace, but steadily so that we’re not late.

If you’re coming via Britomart, Maurice and one other will be on the 12:24pm train from Britomart, hopping off at Baldwin Avenue at 12:47pm.
