If you’re heading to any of the Great Rides of the NZ Cycle Trail this summer, consider getting the Great Rides app. Billed as New Zealand’s only mobile app for all the Great Rides, it’s packed with information about the 22 trails and the services available along them. It also works offline, letting you track your progress in the saddle. And it’s free.
The Great Rides app was launched last year by trail designer and cartographer Gary Patterson. Since then, Gary has added the Heaphy Track and other bonus trails, plus more than 100 individual trail section maps and descriptions. All up, the app now has more than 1500 pages of photos and links. Available on the App Store and Play Store.
