It’s been months in the making, with moments of sweet creative triumph along the way… and all week we’ve been watching the last details of the Quay St protected cycleway slot into place. Smooth new concrete, ‘fresh kermit’, and bright red planter boxes to match the famous red fence. Since you ask: the greenery is a combo of a low-lying native coprosma (evergreen) and a dwarf bottlebrush with bright red flowers. Perfect.
And this Friday, 8 July, is the red letter day – with the official opening ceremony at 9.30am. If you’re nearby, by all means pop along and help celebrate this iconic development.
And if the morning timing doesn’t quite fit with your day? Well, from 10.30am on, it’s all yours, baby. Happy hour ride, anybody…?
An uninterrupted and fully protected bike lane right along the waterfront? Such a gift for locals, tourists and commuters – and families, just in time for the school holidays.
Send us your photos, here or via Twitter or Facebook. We’ll be hanging out for lots of iconic before and after images like these ones, from London… because honestly, you’re starting to look like a real city, Auckland!
This is your city.
This is your city with a cycle superhighway.
Any questions?
